odd. My WRX headlights turned off automagically when the ignition was off.
If the battery was completely drained, the maximum capacity the battery will hold has been at least cut in half.
Since it has only been a day since it was drained, the battery may take a low voltage slow charge to get some juice back.
Personally I would get a new one (ie- the GF gets a new one)
Getting stranded and trying to get help for a push start sucks (ask me how i know)
