Even if you got the car cranked w/ your alt would not recharge it. The charging system in a car is not a battery charger, it is there to MAINTAIN a charge. If you had a dead battery you only option is to recharge it and see if it works. Sometimes you can drain them so far that they will not recharge even on a battery charger.
There should be NO reason your car wouldn't crank jumping it. This assumes you were jumping from a vehicle with greater than or equal size batteries and using good jumper cables. After all, all you are doing is extending the wires to the battery, just like in a battery relocation.
