That's not even remotely true. But I'm not arguing that point right now.

And to respond to RJ, no, it wouldn't give me the warm fuzzies. If my car might be stolen then run my plates without pulling me over - they can do that, y'know, you aren't the only one that knows how to use the internet. But that still misses the point.

Do you think because you think that something is small and menial that a P&P laid out for it doesn't need to be followed? I went out with the half pint last night and on the way back I drove because she'd had some drinks... ok, no big deal, right? But if she gets pulled over and happens to get a DUI that's the end of her profession because of laws imposed by the sanctioning body for whatever it she wants to do. It's one DUI ticket, which admittedly isn't that small, but isn't that large, either. There's a hundred and fifty two ways for somebody to be improperly convicted of drunk driving and the consequences, as evidenced by my date, could be disastrous even in something trivial. Just because something doesn't represent a concern to you doesn't mean that it won't to somebody else.

There are laws in place that govern how laws are enforced and I believe that they need to be followed with the same rigidity of the intent of the original principle.. moreso, even. They're all in place for a reason. Whether a cop is a good person or not is irrelevant - I get yelled at when I fuck up at work, so do you, and even good people can screw up. Just because somebody's a good guy with a family, though, doesn't mean that I should just bend over because I'm riding a sportbike.
