It may be called English, but it sure doesn't sound like English.
On our recent trip to Europe, London gave us the most problems as far as language barriers. We expected it to be easy, but of course most of the folks we dealt with were service-industry types, who were all foreign, and learned British-English as a second language.
Fish and Chips Guy: "Topontopoff?"
John/Chan/Jess/Jess: "WTF?"

Apparently he was asking if we wanted to eat in the little shop, or take it to go...
In Paris, the few folks we had to deal with in English were understandable. In Germany, almost everyone spoke English.
