The car industry really is a different animal.... requiring seat belts, head rests, airbags, better crash standards, lower emissions standards, are all pushed by the gov't and legislation and a small part by other private groups. Its unfortunate, but if the auto industry was more self regulating this type of legislature wouldnt be required.
I suppose you could, with a pretty big reach, use the same argument to require jackets with CE armor, boots, gloves, full face helmets for motorcycle riders too though.
