what pisses me off is that the cop is just as likely to hurt an innocent driver/bystander as the speeder, and chasing him only increases both vehicles speed

in reality, yeah thats what high speed chases do, but i think pursuit can be safer because obviously the cop will have its lights on and the siren blaring which in theory should let everyone around know to get the F outta the way. now we all know how retarded drivers are when an ambulance or police car is trying to get through.
