Tracking a bike is no more dangerous than you make it. It's probably the safest environment you can ride in, provided you don't use it as an area to learn to ride over your head. I'll do it again, and again, and again, and again... and I'll probably crash because I want to use it an as a place to learn to ride very fast - but you don't have to do that. Riding on the street, provided you keep your head about you at the track, is realistically a lot more dangerous.
Now if you want to race, that's a different story. One of the moto-journos that commentated Faster (Julian Ryder?) put it best: "it's just a question of 'when's it going to happen? Because it WILL happen, you WILL fall off" My instructor at Summit Main last year had never been down doing years of track events - as soon as he got his comp license, though, it was all downhill - went down in the chute in his first race.
It'd be great to see an MM bike presence at the track. I hope something like this doesn't scare folks away. Don't forget that things like this are about the rider.
