It's all a judgement call, some people use good judgement when making that call some don't.
IMHO people don't treat bikes with the same respect that they do cars whether it be while on the road or when they're parked. I've seen countless people hop on parked bikes that weren't theres just because the mood struck them. As was said previously people see a nice car whether it be a convertible or unlocked they aren't going to do the same. Because of that most bikers want to keep their bikes within plain sight.
In the case of Front Page to use a specific instance, the parking is for the most part no-where in plain sight of the restaurant. The side walk there is huge so parking a few bikes in a line against the building really isn't in the way too much. People can still travel 4 or 5 wide along the side walk and not get too close to the road or the bikes.
Are we entitled to that, nope, are we gonna take it if it's available to us and it's not causing too much chaos, of course.
That being said, after today (crosses fingers) I won't be afraid to park my bike just about anywhere, the disc lock + the scorpio alarm will keep anyone from fucking with it.
