if they wanted to kill him, they would have shot almost right when they got out of the car, and not flash around the guns. killing was not on their mind.

there's a big difference between intent to rob and actually murdering someone. i'm sure robbing someone is alot easier when you have a gun to their face. also, this is at night....harder to see in the chaos. the guys with guns probably didn't want to shoot their own guy and held back long enough for the marine to kick the guns out of their reach.

also, i doubt the marine had the intent to kill either, like you said. all he had was a pocket knife for crying out loud.
