that's also what i'm kind of wondering. If the accident is not your fault then you should not have to pay for more than your deductible for the cost of fixing the car. If it is your fault and you do not have collision coverage on your insurance policy i can understand the high cost of repair. It seems like the problems you mentioned before shouldn't cost more than a couple hundred $$ max. I know i've ragged on my '86 vw and it doesn't have the best history, but my parents and i haven't even dropped more than $1.5k on unscheduled maintenance on it in its lifetime (owned since '86).
