Problem solved =D Reattached that small loopy hose in the rear of the intake manifold, and tried out my STI MAF sensor in the WRX. It felt fine, so I was like wtf. I removed the shitty grounding kit that was on the STI, then got in the driver's seat and loaded up my tuning software. I was checking out what maps were loaded in which slots of my remote map selector. Then I realized... "why is that on 0?" 0 is typically what TurboXS leaves as the stock map. My mechanic must have accidentally hit the remote map selector next to the parking brake and set it to stock ECU programming. That would explain a LOT.
I put it on 1, turned down the boost a little, and took it for a test drive. Money! Felt good, pulled to redline with no hesitation. It felt a little sluggish since I just reset the ECU, but otherwise much better. Brought it home, turned up the boost slightly, and took it for a drive to Leesburg to get the ECU relearned.
It looks like I found the happy medium where the boost controller is set right now. It's peaking at like 21.7 psi at the very most, as opposed to spiking to 23 psi before. Since the tune was at 21psi, I can tell the car feels much happier where it's at right now. I may have lost a few horses on the top end, but the car feels much better and is still worthy of my title for it: "frankenstein" or simply "the monstrosity."
