well, if you want to see a car show, skip DC entirely and just go to the detroit one. it's AWESOME. The displays are 10x better, the new cars are shown like years earlier, they have all the exotics there (including all the maybachs, lamborghinis, and my favorites, aston martins). The town is kinda lame, and you have to kinda find something to do because all the big venues are used for huge galas for the first couple nights of the show, but it's totally worth it.
DC on the other hand, isn't really an industry show, it's a show put on by the local dealerships.... So it's kinda scaled down, although most normal cars are there. I've even seen a ferrari there one year. You can sit in most cars, except for the concepts, porsches, and any high end exotics that might show up.
On the whole though, the people that are there to sell/provide information know nothing, but then, what's new? I thought about being a concept car babe one time, but I have no idea how to get into that racket. So yeah...if you can't afford the airfare/train ticket to detroit, DC is worth it to see the new stuff, but it's nowhere close to what Detroit is.
