I find it quite nice to be able to almost double the processing power of my computer in 2 years time without having to buy a new motherboard. I went from a 1.4ghz T-Bird chip to a 2400+ on my last motherboard, and right now I'm running a 3500+ Athlon 64 in my system. When 4800 X2 chips (out right now) and faster drop to $150 to $200 price levels in 2 years I will have a nice upgrade path.
