I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the statement above (yes 've heard it a billion times before) does not hold true for a Civic. My car cost 4k, it is dirt cheap to maintain and keep full of gas, it never breaks, and on the twisty track it keeps up with some pretty quick cars.
