it's a good learner. It's quick enough so you'll be satisfied, but you will want something faster after you learn. I've gotten up to speed on this thing as well. This is a GOOD learner bike, you will gain the confidence you need for a newer/bigger/faster bike if you choose to do so. The 54mpg doesn't hurt either
