Jack your car up so the drive wheels are off the ground. Rev to 7k with it in gear, then hit the brakes and see how it nearly instantaniously goes to zero. Feel the brakes, they will still be relativly cool. Do the same thing in you car while driving and the brakes will be much much hotter, Especially at very high speeds because the kinetic energy increases exponentially with speed.
Edit: That may not be so good for your car, so I'm not saying you should actually do it.
