If you cannot fabricate the thing completely from scratch, top to bottom (welding, cutting, etc) then you're in way over your head. Hell, even if you can you're pretty far in over your head.

I think what you need is to buy something cheap, fun, reliable and RWD - maybe a miata - and put the thing on track. You wont be complaining at all after a couple weekends
There's always the option of a miata-based locost type kit, but I really dont think they're very safe.
