The BAR-Honda team will run one of its Formula One cars at the Bonneville Salt Flats. ÔÇ£ItÔÇÖs a [sponsor] Lucky Strike idea,ÔÇØ team principal Nick Fry told AutoWeek. ÔÇ£ItÔÇÖs not a hugely modified car; itÔÇÖll be in standard F1 form but will have to be modified for safety. ItÔÇÖs got to have a parachute on the back, for example.ÔÇØ

Fry said BAR and Lucky Strike officials want to see just how fast an F1 car can go in a straight line. ÔÇ£It has to be to FIA specification, otherwise it becomes a what-is-it-type of project,ÔÇØ Fry said. ÔÇ£We didnÔÇÖt want to increase the size of the engine, or anything like that. We thought weÔÇÖd keep it relatively pure.ÔÇØ

Fry said aerodynamically the car will be ÔÇ£absolutely trimmed out. It will have minimum wing, and a lot of the aero bits required to make it go round corners clearly arenÔÇÖt necessary. Having said that, itÔÇÖs obviously got to be safe, and stay on the ground. At Monza, an F1 car does approximately 220 mph. We think that, at Bonneville, it should be able to exceed 250 mph, so thatÔÇÖs the rough target.ÔÇØ

Fry said one of the BAR junior drivers will run the car. ÔÇ£WeÔÇÖve got Adam Carroll, James Rossiter, and so on. WeÔÇÖre looking at doing this in October, and the plan is to have someone from the FIA there.ÔÇØ
