I understand both of your points. Originally I had gone in there thikning id spend 6-8k and be done w/it, but ive read to many horror storries on here about shit going wrong. I understand you've spent over 10k, but over how long a period has it been?
RJ, all I have to pay for is part of ($300 worth a year) insurance over the next few years (and the obvious bullshit like g/f's and such that you said). Add gas to that. I dont pay for books/tuition. My budget? I did the calculations (and have already been offered this job again for next summer and winter break). I will make just over 5000 this summer. I figure over teh summer ill spend about $1k, leaving me with 4. I entered this summer with $1k, which means I should leave this summer with about 5 grand (obviously not taking into consideration the car).
At school last year, making bullshit money (working for dining services) I pulled in about 350 a month, taking 18 credits worth of classes. I spent a TOTAL of 130 dollars over the spring semester. I DO NOT spend money at all at school, seeing as I never have the urge to. Working just until winter break would give me about $1400. Take away my usual amount, we'll even double it to take into account me spending more next year), say 300. thats about 1000 a semester. Ill work here over winter break. ETC ETC
Next summer, Ill rise a grade in the government, making even more than I do now.

8 grand for the year. And that brings me into the next summer where ill pull in ATLEAST 5k (more because of my increasing rank).
You can go ahead and take another 1 away from that, for misc spending, just because Im sure a lot of you wont believe that I spend so little at school. That still leaves me with 6-7 grand till next summer.
I understand that this shit is a money pit. I understand the fact that when I sell it anything I do to it will make no difference whatsoever value-wise. In no way shape or form do I think I will own this for an extsenive time.
Goal-wise? I dont know. This is something I need to take into consideration and plan for. I want to do a lot of stuff to it, but I want to do it over time. I believe that I will be using this POS car until next summer, when I believe I will make enough money go through with any kind of swap I plan for. That means this car has to drive in Hburg, and to NOVA a few times. This also means that I have this year to spend money preparing it for any kind of swap. If something happens, I have alternative modes of transportation. Hell, my mom wouldn't even let me agree to live w/thayer until she knew Id be able to get arround w/o a car.
I will be receiving 0 dollars from my parents for any of this, except for insurance, which we have talked about.
I dont have 5 grand to dump into this thing right now, but what would require it? If something breaks, then it sits at my house waiting as I raise the money this summer and pay for it. My parents let me drive one of their cars, so I can get arround that way.
