Alright, the gentleman has been contacted via email and I feel confident he will get back to me. I'll negotiate to the best price possible. As such, I need two things from the club:
1. At what point will we get them? In the heat of negotiation, if I get him down to $800 or less, I want the ability to tell him "OK, Deal." If I tell him, "Ok, now that I've got you down in price, let me see if we can do this..." the momentium will be gone and he'll be less likely to keep it at that low price.
2. Are we serious? I don't want to waste the guys time if we are not. Personally, I'd like to at least see pictures first, which I'm also working on. If we are serious, we have two immediate logistical hurdles to overcome - transportation and storage. Perhaps a "convoy" of trucks (Mine, Johns, G's, anyone else?) could rent 4 trailers and go pick them up. Say that works, where may we store them?
I see storage as the biggest challenge. I would offer to store one at my place but I already get gripes from my homeowners assoc about the ruckas I cause with cars.
We could get four people with a place for one car and split the cars up. Being Summer, we could quickly figure out which cars have what parts, find our "main" car, and then strip/junk the rest. Renting a storage unit would then leave us with one car to park somewhere and a storage unit full of parts.
The V-8 swap can definately be done. I wish I had more parts to donate, but I keep a pretty slim selection due to limited storage space.
Lately there have been some advances in the XR community using GM limited slips and MegaSquirt control units. Pretty nifty. Also, for an effort like GRM, I feel that the XR community would be pretty generous.
Hit me up with thoughs on committment, like I said, I'm not going to waste this guys time if we're not serious.
Thanks!
Peter
