Roadrace and AutoX Instructive Books and Videos?

good book, not too much reading but enough to give an in depth view on driving techniques and tactics, as well as instructions on how to properly take corners and drive in race situations. he also has a small part of the book devoted to how to go about buying a race car. good diagrams and pictures too.

i paid about 20 bucks for it, and recommend it.

I was a little dissapointed in this book (5th edition). True, it had some really good stuff in it about 1/2 way though. Seemed the first 1/2 was more of an advertisement for his school and a history of 'Bob' and why you should be reading this book. Ok, I already bought the damn thing, just give me the dirt, don't try and sell it to me AGAIN! I've read almost all the other books mentioned in this thread and there were about 10 pages of info in this book that 'cleared up' what the others were trying to say. I really enjoyed some of the illustrations that really drove home the points he was trying to make. All in all I'd have to say the SOLO racing book had the absolute most info for someone who's only been autocrossing/tracking for 2 years or less. Any more than that and I'd say pass. Move onto the Carrol Smith books (all of them).

Pete, don't discount the how to build a racecar books either. Most of them get really detailed into how to setup a car, build a car, etc and really do a good job of explaining how such and such a mod will effect the car in a turn, on a straight, during braking, etc. Knowing how a car will react to input is just 1/2 the battle, knowing what input it give it is the other 1/2.
