if you want to be pedantic, you could say they're more of a white or western nationalist group who also supports and coordinates with white *supremicists.  however you'd like to define them, they're anti-patriotic trash and operate under the premise of causing violence and unrest wherever they can get away with it.  

If he was so scared why did he denounce them the next day?

because damage control.  his handlers saw the comment blow up in short order and they need to bail water this close to the election.  Trump has consistently operated the last 4 years under the premise of saying completely ignorant nonsense and then coming back and correcting it later based on how badly his PR estimates the damage was to his image.
