Every one of those people in the block quote had someone their opposite saying the president has an obligation to nominate now (2016). The reason it was fruitless back then and people could posture however they wanted is because the Republicans had a large majority in the senate and there was no way an Obama nomination was getting enough votes to confirm. Right now the senate has enough votes to confirm, and the confirmation period will be just shorter than Ginsburgs by election day, and plenty of time before inauguration day. For starters, I don't think Biden wins it anyhow, but the Democrats have already talking about packing the court and removing filibuster to do so. There's literally no incentive for Republicans to not go forward with it, even if it means they have to flip on their own words from a few years ago. Bidens campaign should release a list of judges and run the same script Trump did, which is largely what got him elected to start with. Whether they affirm a nominee now or in the lame duck(if there is one), this is all to the Trump advantage right now. Without a competing list of nominees, I don't think they can win on yelling about hypocrisy and procedure.
