Official MM Firearms Thread

Ammunition is scarce. Firearms are scarce. What is available is often poor quality and overpriced. Shit, a popular online retailer was trying to sell Tula steel case 9mm for 33 cents a round. Preposterous.

So let's chat, then.

First I want to address the TNW. Humbly, I'd walk away. The ability to swap calibers to 45acp is of no real benefit, as modern handgun ammunition is roughly the same in terminal effect. 45 isn't really better at stopping stuff, and I'd much rather have 33 rounds of 9mm than 21 of 45acp. Also the TNW doesn't seem to have the greatest reputation. Poor ejection, barrel nuts coming loose... Then you have to pay extra for a threaded barrel? Hard pass.

For a pistol caliber carbine, I'd be looking very closely at two in particular:

First, the Ruger PCC, which breaks down very small and seems to be inexpensive and reliable.

Second, the Grand Power Stribog, which is absolutely cheaper than it has any right to be. The worst thing I can say about it is that the sights aren't great, but you should have a reflex sight on a defense carbine anyhow.

The Scorpion is nice, but the Stribog is both cheaper and better if you ask me. All metal, uses an AR fire control group and controls, I approve.

However in spite of all that, I'd still choose an AR15 for self defense. You should still be able to get a serviceable AR for under a grand, and have it shipped to whatever FFL you use.

It'll take some work to find in this market, but I believe it'll be worth it.

Meanwhile, your 870 will work just fine, although I think shotguns are a poor choice for home and self defense.

Yeah I've seen the reviews for the TNW being pretty hit and miss. The gun seems to be picky about ammo and mags. Didn't scare me enough to not consider it though as enough people seem to not have issues with it. Mostly want the .45 option for safety and not stopping power. Not overly worried about dropping someone with a 9mm round but I am worried about murking a neighbor. I get that's more a gun control/discipline issue and not a caliber issue but I still like to minimize risk when I can. Also I have someone ready to sell me one so that's kind of a bonus. Not really expecting to fall in love with it but it could make a decent range toy (if it doesn't act up) for the GF or friends if I eventually decide to buy something better.

I don't mind waiting a bit to stockpile ammo and/or get a forever gun if the time aint right. That seems to be the story every other year. Always appreciate more options to consider, I very much like both of those suggestions. Speaking of sights what's your recommendation there? Didn't expect to see so many dot scopes so cheap but I'm sure most of them are junk. Hadn't really even begun to go down that rabbit hole.
