It does get very hot. My in laws have trex. I've been training my feet for years walking across it from the pool. Still not there yet. Their dog doesn't seem to have any problems though.
After walking across Trex just one time I would never install it in a southern state. Even wood down here in Charlotte gets cooked. Wish I could figure out what to do with the dock that would cool down the surface. Getting on and off the dock has resulted in a crying 3 year old (and a couple splinters we had to remove on a 2 year old dock)!
