I also realized on the way back in subfreezing snow/rain/mist that the radar sensor on the front is either not heated or doesn't warm up enough to melt snow/ice and the features associated with that don't work when it's snow/ice covered (at least the system tells you that the features won't work). 

Yup and they really don't work all that well in not dry and mostly clear conditions so I'd shut it off once the weather goes beyond some drizzle and go back to the old way.
