I've been running few miles a week in compliance with my knees and back and have been doing intermittent fasting and a calorie restricted diet. I've shied away from heavy lifting as often as I used to as well in favor of running. I got a nice pair of cushioned, fitted running shoes for my birthday and this has played a positive role as well. I definitely feel a lot better most of the time (except always being hungry) and it's helped my back pain a bit.
I play kickball and softball almost year round and this is the best I've felt when playing. I feel a lot less injury prone as well.
Have you considered biking instead of running to save your back and knees? I had to do that for my knees as they couldn't handle longer than a 3-4 mile run without me regretting my decision.
