have you ever driven a 997? i'd try to find one at CarMax or some other used car dealer if you haven't driven one before and just take it for a spin. It could be on a pedestal that could bring disappointment (although i somehow doubt this).

I totally get the allure of a sweet expensive car. I'm not sure why i've never really had a hard-on for the 911s, but i've never driven one. I really like the idea of having a car that you can thrash around on the street without getting into too much trouble (the GTI was and the z3 is great for that). After riding sportbikes the excitement from cars kind of died down a bit. The Ridgeline purchase was a bit of a stomach-churning purchase for the price alone, but like Scotty my mind justified the long-term purchase since it checked a lot of boxes right now, it's perceived reliability, and resale value in the event i don't want to keep it around.

i think the way to go is to somehow become an automotive press journalist and get various cars every other week to test drive. Jake, you've done good.
