And this is based on a 19th century law. So, not only is Obama responsible, but he's a fuckin' kenyan time traveler! I knew it!
I'm not a fan of this shit - and the West is fraught with very long standing and complicated issues around land use, natural resources, land management, water rights*, disenfranchising native people and stealing their land and so forth. Its not as simple as "Obama let china stealing ur metals!" or "Killary sold all the uraniumZ to Russia, and the Ukraine".
*The water rights thing is probably the most rustling for me - please take some time and read this - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RT...UTF8&psc=1 - what kills me the most is that most of these "libertarian" get the gov off our ranch lands, would never be there in the first place without heavily subsidized or free water from the army corps of engineers or BLM. Well, that and the giant farming corporations driving fucking mac trucks full of almonds through loopholes and unenforcement of the laws.
where we differ is, you easily blame the GOP... where I will easily provide blame to everyone.
the shit happened under Obamas watch... he had to know something about the mining operations, because he not only signed Dott-Frank but pushed it.
Every president has to battle with the people for public lands. they all make compromises... its the political thing to do. what happens is these compromises cross each other, have conflicting information, etc. and it gets worse with time.
water rights... to have the ability to have water... water access.. the ability to navigate waterways... huge issues ive read extensively on. there are ranchers and STATES that cant live without what we have done with water. but our changes to keep ranchers happy and states hydrated has greatly changed the landscape and environment.
In the 1970s they were going to dam the yellow stone river, flood the southern part of the park... just to make sure people had water. It failed and kept the Yellow Stone River the longest unimpeded waterway in the US.
I think water issues are directly related to the population AND climate change. We need water to live and so the do the plants and animals we eat. but we will build houses anywhere... expand beyond the resources in that area. Part of the reason that big farm exists (and I hate them really) is to feed all these people in an affordable manner. that and the extreme decline of small farms... because who wants to work hard for nothing?
