we just got the almost bottom of the barrel top load Samsung Washer ($500, ceramic tub vs Stainless Steel). never had to do anything for it and it's been 7 years; just works. We may look at something fancier if that fails and a repair isn't worth it, but it does the job fine. Any serious stains we've just used spot-cleaners and works like a charm when using the proper temperature. The agitator is minuscule, but seems to work fine.
