Disagree. Liquid gasket only. I won’t guarantee it; but betting the factory has updated their spec to liquid gasket.
Edit: use silicone gray only, clean off the surface, put a 1/8 bead all the way around. Put cover on with bolts hand threaded. Wait 10 minutes then torque down. Learned many times that this is really the only true way to not get a leak for years to come.
