At this point, the only thing that really matters is the next presidential election.

I tend to agree with you on that. I think there is a lot of political capital at risk trying to impeach him at this point.

If you are worried about the next election cycle, yes.

If you are worried about how our country and the rest of the world perceives our democratic institutions and procedures, then no.  

I think not bringing impeachment to the floor will have long standing impacts on the ability for the rest of the world to take us seriously when it comes to allies, trade, etc - the buffoon in the white house has already done enough damage, but we need to show the rest of the world that our country is stronger than one idiot.
