Would someone post a review of Chernobyl with some detail?

I'm trying to talk the wife into it, but she's worried it's too dark and depressing... which seems to be a theme with shows these days.

I'm only 1 episode in, but can confirm it is dark and depressing. There is a scene with the town's people all watching the fire from a bridge (obviously not far enough away to be safe) and kids are making snow angels in the ash on the ground. A mother and father are pushing a baby in a stroller watching the glow...my kid hasn't even arrived yet and it hit me in the feels.
