CONGRATS, you did it!!
As someone who ended up finishing Comp School in a completely different car due to mine breaking mid-day, I totally get the stress and rollercoaster-y nature of the day, then followed by a weekend of "fuck I guess I'm racing now, better not suck too hard" going on. But hey, you got through it all, you did it safely, and now you have some things to work on as you progress.
Some time will naturally drop as you chase various Honda-shaped rabbits. I see you found a 2:18 which is great vs the 2:20 you initially had. Get a proper alignment and get that diff sorted out so you can keep going balls-out and you'll drop a lot more time. Yes, more wheels is more better. I have three sets and finally feel that it's a sufficient quantity.
It's not necessarily a problem to push super hard, but like you said, tire management is something to consider. Learning to "be smart" has taken me a long time.
Tip: Set your AIM to "Predictive" during qualifying and "Static" during the actual races. Lap times during a race don't really matter, and you can glance over when you cross Start/Finish. You will want it on Predictive during Qual so you can monitor progress and motivate yourself. I try to only check mine on front/back straights and mayyybe the bridge straight. Otherwise, it distracts me too much.
Can't wait to see you back out there in a few weeks!!
