I know they changed alot but it almost feels like this will be somewhat of a repeat of the s9 fiasco. Although I guess this time it's more because Samsung (or maybe just the people following the development) hinted at all these big things and then none of them made it into the phone.

I used to be so excited by phones - they're all the same now. Marginally better camera every year maybe. It really just doesn't matter anymore.
We get new phones every two years. The software is generally somewhat better with decent features, like wireless charging, being added over time. The real reason we end up upgrading is because it seems like all batteries start to fall off at the 18 month mark. The feature I'm most excited about in moving from Galaxy to Pixel is the ability to text from my browser. I do this today with the Pushbullet app/plugin, but I refuse to pay for more than 100 texts/month.

"Here, at last, is the cure for texting while driving. The millions of deaths which occur every year due to the iPhone’s ability to stream the Kim K/Ray-J video in 4G could all be avoided, every last one of them, if the government issued everyone a Seventies 911 and made sure they always left the house five minutes later than they’d wanted to. It would help if it could be made to rain as well. Full attention on the road. Guaranteed." -Jack Baruth
