Perhaps so, but at least one hung on enough to give us this excellent drifting demo at the gorgeous Anglesey circuit. The want is strong:
The first time I worked a corner at VIR (maybe the first time I was ever there too?) there was one of these in a HPDE group that really impressed upon me how awesome they are.

The Rendezvous one is such a classic!
They made a bunch of them, one each year until 2010 or so. Objectively the best one (not just b/c of my Supra fanboi-ishness) is GIS 2 with the Escort and Supra. It's a pretty wild ride.
The NSX in the 3rd one sounds pretty spectacular as well:
