Yeah I considered that. I didn't want to mess with the shifter cable non-sense if I didn't have to. I think the smarter approach will be to just leave the heads off, put the engine back in, hook the transmission up and then rebuild the top end with everything in the car. Without the heads in the way those bolts should be pretty easy to get to. With the master cylinder out of the way I shouldn't have any problems getting either cylinder head back on the engine.
