No idea how any other OEM does it, but my Ford does not require that I pay any property taxes. It's basically a rental car.
I am with DJ on the trailer registration, the property taxes and such are not that much, and I'd rather know I'm 100% legal with it versus take chances otherwise.
Your lease company isn't going to require that you pay your property tax, it's your local municipality. NC and SC both require that you pay your property tax on your vehicle before they will renew your registration every year. So if you aren't paying property tax on your truck, it's because your area doesn't have a car tax. My guess is that you just haven't seen the yearly bill for it yet.
FYI my brother leases his S3 and had to pay property tax in VA and in DC when he just moved (you can request a prorated refund if you move or sell the vehicle, which I always do. I just got a few hundo back from the state for my Canyon). It isn't tied to a specific make of car.

You would only if Loudoun has a county specific tax (IIRC they do, but it's been a while). State tax is state tax no matter where you move in the state. But they sure aren't going to offer you up a refund unless you proactively go and ask for it. Usually it involves a call / trip to the tax assessor and sharing some proof that you moved or you sold your car (bill of sale and a receipt from the DMV showing you turned the plates in).
Man I feel like I should start charging some consulting fees here. Have none of you guys ever asked for a property tax refund when you sold your cars?
LOL. I feel like VA was a lot easier. I just had to make a call because they do in retro and it gets cut off from your next bill. (You pay taxes in arrear vs NC you pay ahead).
NC is a pain. I had to sell the car, get my bill of sale, turn in my tags to the DMV, then take the receipt from the DMV and the bill of sale. Call the Iredell Tax admin, get an address and snail mail or fax my bill of sale and receipt from the DMV in. And someday ill get my tax pro-rated refund. Someday...
