Definitely have him adjust his clutch pedal....that made a massive difference in shift quality. For whatever reason these cars came from the factory with the clutch barely dissengaging during shifts so they will drag a bit on a fast shift and grind. He would need to crawl under the dash board though so it's probably out of his league.
After that definitely have new fluid put in probably every 25k miles. He might still be on the original stuff.
