man, I'm glad the fan didn't detonate, that's super fun. I've seen that happen on BMW's just because the clutch is gummed up and locked (so the fan is turning directly w/ engine). That takes out pretty much all the hoses, radiator, and usually puts a couple dents in the hood. I 2nd ditching the mechanical fan!
