Convertibles are often bigger than infant seats, because while they dont have as much recline angle, they are bigger/longer in general to fit your kid as they get bigger (and its an arms race to fit the widest range of weight/height)
FWIW, our infant was waaay worse than our big ass Clek convertible is.
