I think the dream is dead.
Here's the thing - the wagon thing really works, but if I want something newer than the E91 your choices get really scarce, you can get a base model Subaru or Golf 4motion or Alltrack. And both of them are horribly boring, which, isnt a terrible surprise since an F31 brand new has a window sticker that's double the price. I drove an Alltrack and was really underwhelmed.
I've got my parents 2nd car for a while, so I can hunker down if I want to wait to find a really nice RWD m-sport E91 or a B8 S4 Avant that isnt being run through the BaT reality distortion machine. I'm ok with the maintenance bills on these things, but I'm not ok with the maintenance bills when I dont love the car. But the best thing to do is to get the newer car with warranty and I already got some price quotes from Tischer on the Dinan stuff. We're talking about using our vacation next year to take a 2-3 week road trip around the US, and do I want to do this in a 10+ year old car?
At some point I'll be adding a 2nd car back into the mix, and that one would be another 135, 2nd gen TT or maybe a 911 - for sure with 3 pedals.
