Yeah, you floated and bent a valve(s).  Got lucky.

When I hear bent valve, I think valve contacting piston.

In this scenario, is it actually the stem of the valve bending due to it separating from. The lifter/cam Lobe and smacking into it when the spring finally pulls it back up?

It bends the stem because the valve contacts the piston, not because of any spring force pulling it back up.
