I believe hybrids use the electric motor to initiate movement then engine starts and transitions in. (We had a hybrid camry) It happens pretty quickly, within the first second or two, but the take off is smooth and without delay and the transition un-noticeable.

I have a little bit of a rub near lock but if you are turned to lock on a track there are other problems already...
