Eugh, so yeah.
A couple months ago I saw a photo of a Great Falls Green GTI, and couldn't believe they were actually gonna put it on a US market car. So I stopped in at the dealer and they had a 2018 6-speed SE in that color sitting in the showroom. I thought I wouldn't like it in person combined with the red accents. But I did like it. I liked it a lot.
Since the color got me through the door, the salesman had time to tell me all 2018 models are coming with 6y/72k bumper to bumper warranties now. Then I went home and started googling shit and learned that '18 Autobahn trims now come with Adaptive Cruise that can bring the car to a stop, which makes stop & go traffic basically a passive experience.
Fast forward a couple of weeks and Lauren noticed a new Tiguan and asked me about it. Then our neighbors ended up buying one and dragged us over to show it off. A few more weeks go buy and she test drove one. She liked it. A lot.
So the plan was to go in this past Sunday and do a final test drive of the Tiguan and pull the trigger on it if she still felt good about it. But then my dumbass decides to ask what kind of pricing we could get if I also buy a GTI, making sure to remind them seven or eight times I had drummed up an additional sales lead for them who was currently in an office signing paperwork. Aaaaaaaand that's the story of how MM bought three VWs from the same dealership on the same day.
I picked her up tonight. 2018 Great Falls Green GTI Autobahn w/DSG.

I strongly considered going for a manual transmission on this one, but the fact that the ACC can operate in stop & go traffic with the DSG was just too strong of an argument for dealing with NOVA traffic. After picking it up I have zero regrets.
Driving home with the suspension & drive mode in the Comfort setting, letting the ACC do it's thing was pretty sublime. My blood pressure will probably be a little lower after a couple of weeks commuting in this thing.
The Tiguan is a FWD SEL Premium in Black over Gray that should arrive at the dealer tomorrow. It's a smidge faster but probably also not quite as crisp as a CX-5. The warranty on the VW is better, but the overall reliability of the Mazda is probably better. They have comparable tech, the CX-5 offers more at a lower price point, but with current incentives on the VW it sort of washed out in the end. Ultimately she didn't really like the looks of the CX-5 (idk, I like it), but she loved the styling of the VW, so it won out.
