I didn't really follow this the first time but why daily the Miata if you don't like dailying Miatas? Just daily the 4runner. Most "fun" cars probably aren't going to be as nice to daily as an automatic 4runner. So have a fun convertible to daily when it's nice out and the 4runner to get you to work and get groceries in and what not. And you can slowly turning it into a track car if you want. You'd still have the 4runner to tow it down to the track for the weekend and you could still kind of use it for your fun weekend car although you may not be as comfortable once you start track prepping it, you probably won't be in it for long enough non-fun drives where you would care anyways.
