So, I think it all depends on your motives. Just because you interview somewhere else to see what you are worth if you think you are getting underpaid doesn't mean you have intentions of leaving you just want to prove you are worth what you say you are. This leaves a bad taste in an employer's mouth because they want to pay you as little as possible to keep you there. They'll go about finding another hire soon enough that they can pay less that will replace you even if you get your temporary raise most of the time even if you don't want to leave. Regardless you should just get out or have a plan to if you don't think you are getting pay and recognition you deserve. This is only if you are very far off of what you make now and need the money, imo. If you are close you should stay if you like the employer/people/job.

Edit: this is just what I've seen/read online.

Anyhoo, I may be looking at another place depending on how my manager deals with my asks at my end of year review next week. Hopefully leverage you all...
