I think the difference is you didn't have to do anything for the offer. You got a freebie and told your company "this is what I'm worth" and they agreed. When an employee decides to interview with another company/team, they've already gotten to a point where they believe they have to call their employer's bluff. If you're doing that, the relationship isn't healthy and things probably aren't going to last.
