Woke up far too early after sleeping far too little and headed out to Summit Point with Matthew, Taylor, Ryan A and Joey today. Was a very easy drive from Alexandria to Summit with almost nobody else on the road.

I had a blast co-driving Ryan's Camaro, but in between our heats, we all piled in the RR and meandered over to at least one part of Summit Point's "off road" course. You know, to make sure all the fancy terrain management stuff worked. And it did!
The course was small and offered a couple of hills to climb. Some were either too steep or too rutted to attempt since we were just some randos clowning around without any sort of permission - but a couple of them were suitable. The RR has full-time 4WD but I elected to put it in Low range for the steep hill climb. I also raised the suspension to Off-Road Mode (2.2" higher than normal) and selected "Gravel/Rocks/Snow" from the Terrain Response knob. For the downhill portions, I hit the Hill Descent Control to see how well that'd work.

In short, this wasn't much of a challenge for the truck, even on highway tires. When you put it in any Terrain mode beyond "normal," it will show you which diffs are open or locked - it will automatically lock the center and then the rear as needed. I had two brief moments where both diffs were locked, otherwise it was content to just lock the center.

HDC also works very well to keep your speed down as you descend a hill. There was a point where I went down a small grassy hill with HDC doing all the work and my feet on the floor. Pretty wild as you can feel it grabbing one brake caliper at a time to manage the body and weight transfer.
Definitely want to get out to a mild trail and see what else this can do! Off-Road Mode goes 2.2" higher than normal, if you beach the truck on something it will enter "Extended" mode on its own, which is another 1.5". From there, I can hold down the "raise" button for three seconds with my foot on the brake, and it will go another 1.5" taller. The Extended/Super-Extended modes will only last until you get above ~5 mph but they're a cool trick and functional for clearing obstacles if the need arises.
The fact that we did all this with four heated seats, tri-zone climate control and a heated steering wheel all cranked up was pretty cool. I'm really liking this weird SUV so far.
