I love this car and I believe it could be "worth" the price to the right buyer. However, even if I had the money, I'd be torn between this and spending a little bit more on an e46

A little more?  I bought my E46 M3 for 12,000 and it's in pretty good shape overall.  The only things that have actually broke since I bought it is an 02 sensor and a timing chain tensioner.  Everything else has been mods or preventative maintenance.  The myth of all E46M's costing at least $20k either up front or in repairs is complete bullshit.  You just have to be smart about which car you buy.
